An integral part of Maserati’s long history is their iconic trident logo. Since the Maserati trident was first used on the 1926 Tipo 26, it has stood for Maserati’s strength and power and has been present on every one of their historic racing cars. Maserati believes the consistent use of the trident gives their brand instant recognition and carries forward the long legacy of their Italian craftsmanship and racing heritage.

The trident’s history goes back to Roman mythology where it was considered a powerful symbol of the sea and the earth with its ability to control the tides of the ocean while creating powerful earthquakes. The Romans, therefore, gave their god Neptune the power inherent in the trident’s symbol. In 1926 Mario Maserati was inspired by the fountain of Neptune in Piazza Maggiore as well as the colors of the Maserati’s hometown banner to develop the trident logo still used today with little change. The city of Bologna’s banner uses red and blue over a white background, and this is precisely the color scheme used by Maserati to create the iconic logo.

It was a stroke of genius for Maserati to connect the trident to their line of powerful sports cars. The power symbolic in the trident matches Maserati’s unparalleled line of luxury performance automobiles, capable of raising heart rates while offering Italian craftsmanship and style. Fullerton Maserati is proud of our long heritage and welcomes buyers to come explore and experience the unique blend of performance and luxury in our line of Maserati sports cars.
